Hi Jennie,
I found your blog through my sister Becky. How cool is your mini sessions giveaway!?! My favorite Christmas tradition is our no-talent talent show. We lip sinc, put on skits, and have a hilarious time. My family looks forward to it every year. Thanks for an awesome giveaway!
Yay, I love give contests!
We have a family tradition that has been in my mom's family since before she was born. We always get to open one present on Christmas eve. Can you guess it? Christmas Jammies! I don't know why but as a kid, I would never catch on that I was opening jammies... lol Another tradition that our our little family started is having my mom and brothers stay over Christmas eve and all open presents together Christmas morning, My mother loves helping with the set up and watching the little ones open their presents. Me and Warren are looking for a tradition of our own so I look forward to reading your other comments!
Thanks Jen!
Hey, this is a fun little Christmas surprise!! This year we did sub for Santa for a family in our ward! It was so fun! I think we will make that a tradition, helping those who need it most and who you love so much!! Merry Christmas Jennie!
I love your blog!!! So here is a tradition my husband and I started when we first got married, we do oit with our kids and it truly has been awesome to watch them understand how good it feels to give!! We gather clothes blankets food anything we think the road home (the homeless shelter) needs and take it on Christmas Eve. We have also let our kids pick out a gift bag for a boy and girl that they give to the children outside the shelter. To know we are helping make at least one or two Christmases better is amazing!! Thanks for keeping the Holiday spirit alive!!!
Hey, I found you through your adoption button on another site... Nine years ago I gave a couple the best Christmas gift they could hope for when they adopted my little girl. I admire adoptive parents so much and I wish you all the best in creating your family.
I just realized I commented on a post about Christmas traditions - sorry about that!
My family has a lot of the same traditions previously mentioned; open one gift (always jammies) Christmas Eve after we acted out the nativity scene as a family.
But one my mom started maybe 6-7 years ago that we love doing now that we're all grown up with our own families is that everyone brings one part of what's required for a hygiene kit and we assemble them together and donate them to the LDS Humanitarian effort. It's easy, it's fun, and we get to answer lots of questions from the kiddies about what we're doing and why. We get to teach them to be prepared and giving all at the same time!
Favorite tradition? It's one I haven't done since I moved away from home - my family had a book of Christmas-themed short stories, one to be read every night. I looooved that book. I couldn't wait for certain days because I knew what story was coming up. My mom made a copy for each of us, but I haven't added it to our holiday schedule yet. YET. I will get on the ball soon, I just know it. I can feel it.
p.s. nice job with your grandma in PhotoShop! You've got skills, my friend.
I don't see my comment from earlier... is this one prize or three?
i have 2 favorites, first our family celebrates a german tradition of putting our shoes under the tree one night, and st nick brings a little teaser gift...to get the kids super excited. and of course the pj party on christmas eve at grandmas. new jammies and playing games all night to pass the time away......thanks for this fun idea!
How fun! I love contests! I love so much about the holidays, but one of my favorite traditions is brunch on Christmas morning with my family. My dad cooks "polischenken" which are basically an Austrian version of crepes. He only cooks these once or twice a year, and we always remind him he'll be making them on Christmas morning. :) They are so yummy and have become one of our favorite traditions!
i have 2 favorites... both involving food...
we always have fondue at my parents house on christmas eve. it's the BEST. cheesy fondue is heaven.
between christmas & new years, we have a "shrimp-fest", if you will :) it became a tradition because my great-grandpa loved shrimp & his birthday was on the 31st, so they always had it for his birthday. my mom & her siblings have carried on the tradition. basically we get the whole family together and eat a lot of shrimp!
Jennie,
What a fun idea!
My favorite Christmas tradition that we did in my family growing up and have started doing in my family now is on Christmas eve all the kids sleep in the same room together. It was always so fun to stay up and talk about what gifts we hoped to open the next morning. Now my kids are able to make fun memories of there own with their siblings.
Merry Christmas cute Jennie!
My favorite Christmas tradition is, like everyone else, opening jammies on Chrisymas eve. I was soo excited we got to do it with Alex this year!!
Also my husbands family has a tradition of having breakfast together Christmas morning with all his cousins, no one misses it, it's great!!
I love that we open our presents in a very orderly manner. My Dad gives a gift to the youngest, then the next youngest, through my mom. Then Mom goes, giving a present to everyone, youngest to oldest, except herself. Then the oldest child, etc. Sure, it takes a long time to open one present at a time for eight siblings, two parents, four spouses, and seven grandchildren, but I LOVE it.
I love the very orderly way that my family opens presents. It starts with the oldest person, my dad, handing out a gift to the youngest person. We all watch them open the gift. Then the next youngest person gets a gift, on up through my mom. Then it's my mom's turn to pick out a present for everyone starting with the youngest, and skipping herself. It may take up a lot of time, but I love it--one of my very favorite things about Christmas.
Wow! I'm sad now that I took a hiatus from computers for the last few days. What a cute baby in that picture, though. I hope you guys had a great Christmas!!
